SHOP UPDATE + 20% OFF COUPON!!

Posted by joyousjess , Sunday, February 5, 2012 3:01 PM

Hey guys, I don't do much blogging these days. I'm usually pretty busy! But I wanted to let everyone know about the updates to my etsy shop...

My shop name has changed!! My previous shop, Get Happy Tie Dye, sold mostly tie dye apparel, purses, and accessories. But recently my shop has experienced a name change to make room for my non tie-dyed crafts, and to make room for something much bigger: God.

"We create because we were made to create, having been made in the image of God, whose first role was Creator. He was and is a million different things, but in the beginning, He was a creator. That means something for us, I think. We were made to be the things that He is: forgivers, redeemers, second-chance givers, truth-tellers, hope-bringers. And we were certainly, absolutely, made to be creators. If you were made to create, you won't feel whole and healthy and alive until you do." ~Shauna Niequist, Bittersweet

Isn't that awesome? We were literally HANDMADE by God to be creators. No wonder I get antsy when I haven't made something in a while!

So without further ado, please enjoy my new craft-filled, God glorifying, tie-dyed, painted, & sewn shop: Handmade to Create :)

Each "Happy Hippie" has their name on the bottom and little illustrations of the things they love and love to do. They have their own personalities!

Ever So Slightly Off Topic

Posted by joyousjess , Tuesday, July 13, 2010 12:17 AM

Although this is a little off topic, Kaleidoscopic (meaning many colors) Zeal (addiction or passion) can be made of so much more that just one type of art. Being a rockin' tie dye blog is goal numero uno! But seeing as art is so multifaceted and the fact that I love to explore different hobbies, on occasion I will have other genres to post. :)

So, first of all: My Mom rocks!! I just turned 20 a week ago and this is what she got me for my birthday!! When I was about 12ish I use to sew all the time on my Nana's sewing machine. I made purses and clothes for my dog, and for a kid it was actually kind of good! And since I made a tie dye dress out of tshirts (by hand), I was anxious to make something else from scratch! But- not so anxious to take a million years doing it by hand. And being the wonderful mom that she is, she's the reason I have added yet another (yes, another) hobby to my list. :)

After she gave me the sewing machine, I ran to a local fabric store and bought the most colorful stuff I could find! I brainstormed, took measurements, and came up with a good idea what would soon be my dress. I did not use any patterns, in fact I don't think I would know what to do with one if it were ever given to me! I prefer to construct my own game plan. :)

This is one of the first peices I put together for my dress- a pocket! Yes Kicker, a pocket :)

I added some elastic to the striped band above, that way the dress would be easier to get on and off. The hardest part of this dress was definitally the bust area. Sheesh, who knew these girls would be so picky about what they wear! :P

Here it is after each individual piece had been hemmed. Now all I had to do was put it all together!

This is the top part of the dress sewn together. & May I have a drumroll, please...

Totally worth the patience!!! I have practically lived in dresses this summer and since the tshirt dress I had made was already pre-hemmed.. I am very proud to add my very first 100% handmade dress to my wardrobe! I am wearing it to a play tomorrow!!

Stay tuned...

My Dad and Step Mom also got me a BEAUTIFUL white dress to tie dye for my birthday!

-AND-

I have more fabric waiting to be transformed into another dress!! :)

You Are The Drum Roll to My Finale

Posted by joyousjess , Saturday, June 26, 2010 12:49 PM

I have already posted these, but I thought it would be cute to add a picture of the dresses in action!!

This is my newest favorite! I don't really have any tie dye with this style, so I decided rather that going for a pattern made with the colors of dye, I'd go for a pattern made from the resist of dye with the rubber bands! The white stripes on the dress were made by the rubber bands, which kept the dye from touching the fabric. I went for more of a blotchy effect with the purple at the bottom as a drum roll for my finale, which ended with a splash of red at my toes :) I like these colors together. It's kind of my red hat lady dress, haha. I bought the dress white at Factory Connection for $15. It is American Eagle so it was definitally a steal! Though it looks super cute, do not be fooled! It is also super comfortable!! It feels like I am wearing a tshirt that reaches my ankles :)

My aunt bought this dress white for my cousin Bree. I absolutely love how the colors turned out! It looks super cute on her too, I am sure I will get a picture up soon :)

These are several baby onsies I have made from orders and also as gifts :) I LOVE THEM!

My youngest brother rockin' his birthday tie dye!

I have more to post: Father's Day gifts, birthday gifts for my sister.. I'm sure I am forgetting more than just that.. So, keep in touch! :)
